The state government today announced one more important scheme. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced an aid scheme to encourage the use of battery-powered two-wheelers and three-wheelers in the cities and towns of the state to curb air pollution from vehicles. Under this assistance scheme, the government will provide assistance of Rs 12,000 to students studying from Std-9 to college in the state to purchase a battery-powered two-wheeler.The target is to provide subsidy to 10,000 vehicles. Not only this, the state government will also provide assistance of Rs. 48,000 for the purchase of battery operated e-rickshaw three wheeler for individual and institutional beneficiaries and five thousand e-rickshaws will be given the benefit.

Gujarat Two Wheeler Scheme has been announced by the state government on 17 September 2020. In this 2 Wheeler Scheme, the Gujarat govt. will provide Subsidy on purchase of electric scooters to encourage use of e vehicles to prevent air pollution. In addition to this, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also announced to start Three Wheeler Scheme 2020. In 3 Wheeler Scheme, govt. will provide subsidy on purchase of electric rickshaws.

A scheme of Rs. 50 lakh will be implemented to set up vehicle charging facilities
Implementing a Rs 50 lakh scheme to set up vehicle charging facilities, the Chief Minister gave this eco-friendly gift to the citizens of the state as a panchasheel gift of five development schemes in the state to celebrate the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the same time, a scheme of Rs 50 lakh has been implemented to set up infrastructural facilities for charging battery powered vehicles. Today, 11 years ago, when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he set up the Climate Change Department. A series of events were held to celebrate the founding day of the department.

Addressing the function held through Gujarat Leading Video-Conferencing in Solar System in the country, the Chief Minister said that Gujarat is moving ahead with Green Energy Clean Energy. Today, when the effects of climate change have become a challenge to the entire world, years ago, the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi created the first timely climate change department in the country keeping in view the challenges that would arise in the future. Gujarat is a leader in solar system in the country. Gujarat is the state which gets maximum sunlight for twelve months. Our goal is to generate electricity from sunlight and provide cheap electricity to the citizens, as well as generate electricity on the rooftops of their homes and earn extra income by selling extra electricity. That is why the solar rooftop project has become the hallmark of Gujarat.

The announcement to start Gujarat Two / Three Wheeler Scheme was made during a virtual programme on climate change to commemorate the founding day of the state climate change department. CM has also announced the subsidy as a “Panchsheel gift” of five development schemes in Gujarat to celebrate the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gujarat Two Wheeler Scheme 2020 – Subsidy on e Scooters
The important features of the Gujarat Two Wheeler Scheme 2020 are as follows:-
  • The state govt. will provide a subsidy of Rs. 12,000 to each student to buy electric scooters.

Gujarat Three Wheeler Scheme 2020 – Subsidy on e Rickshaws
The important features of the Gujarat Three Wheeler Scheme 2020 are as follows:-
  • The state govt. will provide a subsidy of Rs. 48,000 to each candidate to buy electric rickshaws.
  • Assistance would be given to individual and institutional beneficiaries in Gujarat Three Wheeler Scheme.
  • The subsidy amount is only for the purchase of battery powered e Rickshaws.
  • Around 5,000 such electric vehicles would be provided under the 3 Wheeler Scheme.
Subsidy Scheme to Setup Infrastructure Facilities to Charge Battery Powered Vehicles
Both the Gujarat Two Wheeler and Three Wheeler Schemes 2020 will be taken forward as per the response of the applicants. The state govt. of Gujarat will also start a subsidy scheme of Rs. 5 lakh to set up infrastructure facilities in the state for charging battery-powered vehicle. The total installed capacity of electricity in the state is 35,500 MW. The contribution of renewable energy to the total installed capacity of Gujarat is 30% which is more than the national average of 23%.

The Climate Change department has also signed virtual MoU with 10 organisations. These MoU will work on mitigating the effects of climate change and increasing the use of renewable energy via the usage of space technology and geo-informatics.

Climate Change Risk Assessment of Mitigation MoU
Climate Change Risk Assessment of Mitigation MoU was signed with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) for climate finance and climate policy matters. This MoU is also signed with Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGn) on capacity building, research and enhancing the public utility of scientific information in the field of climate change and environment.

An MoU was also signed with the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation and Gujarat Gas. This MoU was signed to increase the usage of clean fuels like CNG in vehicle transactions and to formulate building codes on energy saving in houses with the chief town planner.

The Gujarat government is also planning to introduce a subsidy scheme of up to Rs 2 lakh for battery powered vehicles and accounting infrastructure for charging.
He further said that Gujarat is also a leader in renewable energy. The total installed capacity of electricity in the state is 35,500 MW. The contribution of renewable energy to the total installed capacity of Gujarat is 30 per cent, which is more than the national average of 23 per cent. Effective implementation of unconventional energy stops approximately 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere during the year and saves 10 million tons of coal for power generation. The purity of the atmosphere is also maintained.
